As the Sun Sets

As she looked upon the horizon she saw the sun peaking out from behind the clouds like a child peeking around a corner. She saw the variety of shades in the clouds from the angelic white to the mysterious dark grey. She thought to herself, “I am so blessed to live in such a beautiful place.” She sat and she watched. Soon the sky danced with vibrant colors. She sat back in awe. From purple to pink to orange, the sky lit up with color. The sun sank lower and lower behind the mountains. Soon it was dark, but she had hope because she knew that the sky would dance with colors once again; she would just have to wait until the sun rose.

I looked out at the sunset and was inspired to write. As I wrote I realized that the sunset and sunrise were metaphors for our lives. We have colorful, happy seasons in our lives, but we also have darker times and challenges. We need to see that even if a hard challenging season is upon us that a happy one will come again. It won’t stay dark forever, the sun will rise in the morning.

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3 NIV
